Drones launched from southern Iraq hit Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline on Friday, and on Monday Brent crude rose more than 3% to about US$108 a barrel. The line carries crude from the Abqaiq fields to Yanbu on the Red Sea, and since March it has been the main way Saudi oil gets to sea without passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
The chart tracks Brent's weekly close from late March, when the strait's disruption began, through the slide to US$68.68 in early July and the climb since. A navigation deal for the strait was due to be signed in Muscat on Sunday. That meeting was postponed hours after an attack on an Iranian vessel.
The repair timetable is the thing to watch. Aramco fixed earlier damage to the same line in three days, and it has not yet said what this one looks like.
