Across the ten financial years on this chart, Nike's revenue climbed from US$34.35bn to US$51.36bn and then dropped to US$46.31bn. The year to May ended at US$46.40bn, barely different.
Bank of America thinks that plateau has further to run. Analyst Lorraine Hutchinson cut Nike to underperform on Friday and moved the sales recovery she expects from next spring into the following financial year. North American wholesalers are still clearing unsold stock, which delays their next orders.
Thursday's first-quarter result is the first chance to test her. Revenue in Greater China is what would change the argument, if its fall has started to narrow.
