Oil fell for a third session on Friday because of a repair timetable. Saudi Arabia said half the capacity of its East-West pipeline, hit by drones launched from Iraq, would be back within days and the whole line within weeks, and West Texas crude settled at US$100.04.
The chart is the daily WTI spot price from FRED, from the start of June to the middle of September, with Friday's settlement drawn as the last point. It touched US$69.60 in early July. By the day of the attack the price had reached US$103.57, and on the Tuesday after it stood at US$107.02, the last reading FRED holds.
The line matters because it was built so Saudi crude could reach buyers without passing through the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has effectively shut this year. The Saudis are shuttling barrels through Hormuz on smaller vessels and loading more at Oman while the repairs run. Hormuz itself remains closed, and the bond market has not yet decided the energy problem is fixed.
